TASTasmania nomination
Tasmania has built its program around genuine, evidenced commitment to the state rather than raw points. Long-term residence, study in Tasmania, and established local employment have all carried real weight.
What connection they want
Tasmania has run streams for Tasmanian graduates, for people already working in Tasmania, and for offshore applicants with job offers - with residence and employment periods that are checked carefully.
How the program behaves
- Tasmania has been comparatively achievable for people with modest points scores who can demonstrate they actually live and work there.
- It has also been strict about genuineness, and has refused nominations where the commitment looked like a points exercise.
- Subclass 190
- Yes
- Subclass 491
- Yes
- Nomination points
- 190: +5 / 491: +15
- Regional coverage
- The whole of Tasmania is designated regional.
- Program year
- 2026-27
Current occupation lists, thresholds and opening dates live there, not here. Check it before you act on anything.
How Tasmania actually chooses people
Tasmania does not rank you on your points score. It ranks you on priority attributes, sorted into colour bands, and works down the bands.
The one priority attribute Tasmania defines publicly by occupation. You claim it by holding a skills assessment for a listed health, allied health or teaching occupation AND working in Tasmania in the same 3-digit ANZSCO group.
How the selection works
- Registrations of interest in the Migration Tasmania Gateway are ranked, not processed in order of lodgement. A stronger profile submitted later can go ahead of a weaker one submitted earlier.
- The gold priority attribute is occupation-linked and searchable below. Other attributes relate to your employment in Tasmania, your study there, and how long you have genuinely lived in the state.
- Employment-based attributes have carried a minimum salary threshold, so a low-paid or heavily casual role may not count even if the job itself is real.
- Because it is ranked on attributes rather than points, a modest points score with strong attributes can beat a high points score with weak ones.
Do not plan around your points score alone for Tasmania. Work out which band your attributes put you in - that is what actually decides your position in the queue.
This describes the mechanism Tasmania uses to rank and select candidates, which changes rarely. It deliberately does not list current thresholds or occupation lists, which change through the year. Mechanism reviewed 22 July 2026.
Search Tasmania’s priority occupation lists
Tasmania publishes two occupation lists, for two different routes. Find your occupation on either and you know which door is open to you. Search below, filter to the list you care about, or open the whole list.
Type your occupation above, or open the whole list. Between the two lists there are 330 priority occupations across health, trades, IT, engineering and business.
Gold priority attribute
Holding a skills assessment for one of these occupations lets you claim the gold priority attribute, which ranks your registration ahead of others for the Tasmanian Skilled Employment, Skilled Graduate and Established Resident pathways.
A skills assessment alone is not enough. You must also be working in Tasmania in the same 3-digit ANZSCO group as your assessed occupation. That group is shown against every result.

The official table also lists example related roles you can work in within each group; a few groups carry an employer-tenure or membership condition, shown against the group.
About green, orange-plus and orange: You may have seen older references to green, orange-plus and orange occupation bands. Migration Tasmania has replaced that colour ranking; the current program uses the gold priority attribute and the TSE priority list above. We will add other bands here only if the official site reintroduces them.
Regional postcodes in TAS
These are the designated regional area postcodes for Tasmania, as published by the Department of Home Affairs. Category 2 and Category 3 are both regional; anything not listed is Category 1 and attracts no regional concessions.

| Category 2 Cities and major regional centres | 7000, 7004–7026, 7030–7109, 7140–7151, 7170–7177 |
| Category 3 Regional centres and other regional areas | All remaining postcodes in Tasmania. |

Is your postcode regional?
Check any Australian postcode against the Department of Home Affairs designated regional area list.
Before you commit to TAS
- Confirm your occupation appears on the current TAS list - state lists are much narrower than the national list.
- Get your skills assessment and English test done. Most states will not consider you without them.
- Work out your points score, then check it against what TAS has recently invited.
- Check whether TAS requires its own registration separate from your SkillSelect EOI.
- Be honest about the commitment. Nomination is granted on the basis that you will live and work there.
Registered migration agents
We are building a directory of MARN-registered agents and immigration lawyers. Listings are checked against the public register before they appear.
How the directory worksPlacement shown on the TAS nomination page.
