Skills in Demand: income thresholds rose on 1 July 2026

The Core Skills Income Threshold was indexed upward from 1 July. A salary that qualified for a subclass 482 nomination last year may not qualify for a new nomination now.

What changed

From 1 July 2026, the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) for the subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa rose to approximately $79,500 following annual indexation, up from $76,515. The threshold is indexed every 1 July.

Why it matters

The salary offered to a sponsored worker must clear both the CSIT and the annual market salary rate for the role. Because the threshold moves every year, a salary that was compliant for a nomination lodged last year is not automatically compliant for a new nomination this year. If you are planning an employer-sponsored application, check the offered salary against the current threshold, not last year's.

This affects new nominations. It does not retrospectively change a visa already granted.
